The CarProg is a universal diagnostic and reprogramming tool, initially designed as an "all-in-one" tool for automotive electricians.
The CarProg is particularly renowned for managing car radios, dashboards (odometers), airbags, and immobilizers.
The CarProg was designed to centralize several expensive tools into a single interface.
Its internal architecture (16-bit processor) allows it to communicate directly with the memory chips of ECUs.
OBD2 Mode: For quick interventions (Opel PIN code reading, VAG airbag reset).
"Bench" Mode (On the bench): For cases where diagnostic via the socket is impossible.
The ECU is connected directly to the CarProg via specific adapters.
Specialties by Area:
Airbag Repair (Airbag Reset):
This is its most famous function. After an airbag deployment, the ECU records "crash" data that renders it unusable.
Action: CarProg erases this specific line of code in the EEPROM.
Strong brands: Very effective on Bosch, Continental, and TRW modules (Alfa, Audi, BMW, Ford, Honda, Mercedes, etc.).
Dashboards:
Essential when replacing a used odometer to synchronize information.
Functions: Read/write mileage, repair corrupt data, and read PIN code for pairing.
Compatibility: Supports old K-Line protocols and newer CAN-bus.
Immobilizer and Keys (Immo):
PIN extraction: Allows retrieval of the security code required for programming new keys (widely used on Opel, Fiat, VAG).
Engine Control Units (ECU):
Reading immobilizer data to perform an "Immo Off" (starting without a chip) or ECU cloning.
Car Radio Decoding:
Calculates the security code from the serial number or by direct memory reading for Blaupunkt, Clarion, Becker, etc. car radios.
The CarProg derives its power from its many cables:
A1 / A1+: Main OBD2 adapters (essential for CAN-bus).
D1: Adapter for dashboards and airbags (for bench use).
A15: Specific for reading memories via solder points.
SOIC8 Clip: To read 8-pin chips without having to desolder them from the circuit.
Several software versions: v8.21 -- v10.93 -- v13.77
Version 8.21: Considered the most stable for "clone" versions. It has almost all scripts activated and does not require tokens to function.
Recent versions (v10+): Add newer vehicle models but may be less stable on some critical functions like EEPROM flashing.
